Paula, can you start by telling us about yourself and company? LFS Consulting LLC helps individuals and teams develop strong leaders and become financially literate all while bringing hope to life's complicated situations. We are here to help educate, encourage, elicit and evoke hope to ensure we have better leaders and are good stewards with our money.
What motivated and inspired you to start your business? I was inspired to start my business while working in a toxic corporate environment. After nearly 20 years I recognized the strong need to help managers learn how to be leaders - because there is a difference. I am motivated by knowing that any person that wants to grow - can grow and I can help them. I am inspired by the many people who I have seen grow into some of the best leaders in their fields all because of some small impact I had on them. I also decided that many of us don't talk about money and are drowning silently. It doesn't matter how much a person makes. People are lost and don't understand where their money is going on a daily basis. I am inspired by all of my clients whether they make $50k or $200k. They all need help - and that is what I provide - a non judgmental experience where I walk with them to get on the right path. I took both my passions in the areas of leadership development and financial coaching and decided to use my gift to speak, train and coach.
How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors? I am uniquely made - I have my own experiences that differ from the next person. As an African American woman who led many teams in corporate America for 20 years, worked with Fortune 500 companies and led a Business Resource Group - my experiences can only be shared by me. I take these experiences along with my gift and share in a way that resonates with those who come into contact with me either as a client or participant in my workshops. I am clear about my why and I know it is unique to me. I do what I do because I want to EDUCATE people on how to be better leaders and better stewards of their money. I want to ENCOURAGE people to continue to learn. I want to ELICIT good thoughts about change even when it appears to be scary. I want to EVOKE hope where there appears to be none. I have lived a life where the ups and downs have paralyzed me in one way or the other but having hope has helped me out of each and every situation - whether professionally or personally. Sometimes people don't have hope, can't see hope and are afraid to even move forward. I do what I do because I want to help people see a different way.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs? I would first say to remember why you started - at all times - it will help you remain focused! Second, I would say to use the resources that are out there for entrepreneurs - there are so many - and many are free (ex. WBDC, SBA, SCORE, SBDC, etc.). Then I would say to watch your expenses from the beginning - there are so many things you think you "need" - but you really don't! I would also say to make sure you get engaged with other entrepreneurs, get an accountability partner, find your tribe - like minded people walking this walk with you will help bring you peace on days you didn't even know you needed it. Finally, Do You! It is so easy to look at others and think you should be doing so many other things - do what's comfortable for you - it's your business, your brand and your voice - use your voice in the manner that suits you and your growth will come.
How do you keep motivated through difficult times? I know I have a gift and God wants me to share it. Everyone is not going to understand what I am trying to do - I'm not in this for them. I am in this for those who can take the gift that I share and grow from it. I remind myself that this is not a race. I am prayerful and grateful and I have some powerful prayer warriors who help me on a regular basis.
What are you most proud of as a company? I am most proud of the changes I see in my clients. I have had clients that have grown from an individual contributor to managing teams. I have had clients pay off thousands of dollars in debt and understand how to budget. I have had clients that literally had no hope when I first met them and now can see a much brighter future. I have had clients that learned something from a workshop I have done and implemented it in their corporate or personal lives immediately. Change is powerful and it makes me proud to see those who I worked with gain confidence in themselves.
Where do you see your company in the next three years? I see LFS Consulting LLC continually growing our client base and helping people be the best they can be as they develop. Learning is a continuous process and I want my company to be part of the learning process.
What is your favorite professional (business) book and why? Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell
This book talks about how opportunity, chance and hard work (the 10,000 hours rule) lead to success. You can't expect to be great if you don't put in the work. Our circumstances absolutely play a role in our success but its the work we put in that truly makes the difference.
What is your favorite quote and why?
"People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you'll know exactly what to do." This quote is my favorite because it speaks to how we must put everything into perspective. Sometimes we expect people to be something that they were not made to be in our life - and it's ok. Once you recognize what purpose a person serves or served it helps you manage expectations as well as your own feelings when things may or may not go the way you think they should go. This has been my favorite quote for over 30 years!
What do you like to do in your spare time? Socialize with family and friends and travel
What fun unknown factoid could you share that most people may not know? This could be professional or personal. I LOVE to dance!
