Feature Friday: Interview with Debbie Petropoulos

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

Debbie, can you start by telling us about your company?

One True You, LLC provides personalized coaching support and guidance to leaders, executives, professionals, small business owners, and entrepreneurs experiencing leadership, career, business, and life challenges.

What motivated and inspired you to start your business?

Several life changing experiences provided new perspective about what was most important in my work and life and served as the inspiration for starting my business. One True You, LLC was founded in 2015 with the vision of providing inspirational coaching for successful outcomes for professionals experiencing career and life challenges.

How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors? I have always enjoyed coaching and mentoring individuals and teams. I was in Corporate senior leadership roles for more than 30 years at Abbott and retired from AbbVie at 51. What distinguishes One True You Coaching is the breadth of knowledge, experience, and expertise I’ve acquired. I share this with clients that want Executive Coaching, Leadership Coaching, and Life Coaching for long-lasting transformational change. I understand the personal and professional challenges and provide One True You clients with guidance to navigate the obstacles, breakthrough the barriers, find new direction, and achieve successful outcomes.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs? If you’re constantly comparing your achievements with what others are doing, now is the time to stop. You’ll achieve greater success by focusing on your own achievements and how that aligns with your personal best. Believe in yourself. Do what you know. Ask for what you need. And, do better as you know more.

How do you keep motivated through difficult times? I’ve learned that even the most difficult times are “temporary”. At times, temporary has been a bit longer than expected. But, through each of those challenging times, staying resilient has served as strong motivation to never give up. This serves as inspiration:

"Everything will be all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not yet the end."

What are you most proud of as a company? What I love most is receiving a celebratory call or email from a client sharing a success story. One True You Coaching clients have changed companies, secured new positions, increased salaries (even in these uncertain times of COVID-19), enhanced leadership skills, received promotions, started-up businesses, retired early, relocated to warmer climates, improved relationships, shifted mindset, increased confidence, and so much more! I’m most proud of all the personal and professional achievements!

Where do you see your company in the next three years? One True You Coaching is celebrating it’s 5th year! I’ve been privileged to work with many professionals in the Greater Chicago Area and Kenosha. Several clients have relocated to other states across the U.S. as well as Internationally. Over the next three years, I envision new opportunities to expand One True You Coaching services to support an increase in client referrals and provide an even broader outreach virtually.

What is your favorite professional (business) book and why? “The Success Principles” remains one of my all-time favorites, as well as “Life Lessons for Mastering the Law of Attraction”. These Jack Canfield books, and many others, have served as great inspiration for guiding career and life success.

What is your favorite quote and why? “Our journeys are not necessarily ones of greatness, but of small steps done greatly.” I’ve shared this quote during many inspirational talks with business networks, entrepreneurs, and universities, and in my “Create Your Best Life” Workshops. It’s a wonderful reminder that the small, actionable steps we consistently take to keep moving forward, create momentum and successful outcomes over time.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I volunteer as a Family Ambassador for Ronald McDonald House Charities near Luries Children’s Hospital in Chicago. RMHC is an amazing organization that helps keep families with critically ill children together while receiving care. I stayed at RMHC several years ago when my daughter needed urgent medical care. That experience was life-changing and led to inspiring the start-up of my coaching business.

What fun unknown factoid could you share that most people may not know? This could be professional or personal. I have three beautiful granddaughters including identical twins. All were preemies. Imagine starting life at just a little over a pound at birth. Amazing miracles! Very blessed!
