Allowing Quiet Moments to Spark your Imagination
Imagine what your business would look like if you only focused on two things:
Doing the work you enjoy most.
Doing the work that comes most easily to you.
At the intersection of this, our imagination has the potential for limitless creativity.
The challenge is, keeping imagination alive when you feel like you are, to quote a line from Hamilton, "In the eye of a hurricane."
For me, the silver lining in this line of the song is,
"There is quiet. For just a moment."
Allowing myself to find these quiet moments sparks my imagination.
A recent article by Harvard Business Review entitled,
"We Need Imagination Now More Than Ever" defines the term this way:
"Imagination--the capacity to create, evolve and exploit mental models of things or situations that don’t yet exist . . ."
After researching 250 multinational companies, the authors developed a list of "seven imperatives" for how to develop our capacity for imagination.
1. Carve out time for reflection.
2. Ask active, open questions.
3. Allow yourself to be playful.
4. Set up a system for sharing ideas.
5. Seek out the anomalous and unexpected.
6. Encourage experimentation.
7. Stay hopeful
We can all expand our capacity for imagination.
